Summer Expedition season
This expedition season has been another busy one with a mixture of walking, paddle and adapted expeditions to meet the needs of all our young people.
Bronze qualifier and silver practise
Our season kicked off with Forfar Academy heading out for their bronze qualifier and silver practise over in Comrie. The young people showed great resilience over the few days developing skills acquired over the SFW programme . Team bronze, worked well together, rising to the challenge and utilising the skills within the group to create an effective team dynamic. Team silver found the step up to silver a challenge but showed resilience and determination in overcoming personal difficulties and completing their practise. A reflection session has helped the team look at how they can prepare for the qualifier.
Silver practise
Next up was our open silver groups practise at Loch Faskally for their SUP expedition. The group were not blessed with great weather for their practise, but another incredibly resilient group that leaned  into the skills they have acquired and put 100% effort in over the weekend. The practise gave them the opportunity to practice their water safety rescue and paddle technique. The group work efficiently and respectfully as a team.
Silver qualifier
The open silver group have recently completed their silver qualifier down at the Union canal . Agan weather was not on our side, but the group took on the challenge and worked hard together. The group got to experience the Falkirk wheel on the SUPS and explore the history of the canal for their aim. This is the Associations first SUP expedition and we are incredibly proud of the group for completing their qualifier.
Adapted bronze expedition
We have also had the pleasure of running an adapted bronze expedition down at Denmarkfield Rewilding site to meet the needs of these young people. Over the 2 days our young people got to support plant identification and surveying, bee identification , rake the orchard and help with hedge maintenance, view the badger trail camera footage, visit the dens and investigate owl pellets. The young people tried their hand at leaf bashing, slate decorating and photography. Huge thanks to Lauire and Josh for supporting this expedition and sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge.
We still have one more expedition to run before the end of the season. We are very proud of all of our young people and being in the privileged position to watch their grown in the own confidence and self-belief. Â A massive thank you to our expedition volunteers, Pauline, Steve and Ian, their support and commitment is invaluable for us running our expeditions.
